Peter Schmeichel has lauded Newcastle United summer transfer target, Thomas Muller, as an ‘unbelievable’ player, as he told CBS Sports (08/03/22 at 10:25 pm).

The former Manchester United goalkeeper praised the Bayern Munich star’s qualities and ‘leadership’ skills.

On Tuesday night, Bayern thrashed RB Salzburg 7-1 in the second leg of their Champions League knockout tie, with Muller netting a brace.

Only Lionel Messi has provided more assists than Muller since 2008 and now the one-time World Cup winner is on the summer transfer list of Newcastle, according to German reporter Christian Falk.

After his performance against RB Salzburg, and watching him live behind closed doors last season, Schmeichel praised the 32-year-old player.

“This guy is unbelievable,” said Schmeichel. “His communication. The leadership. The way he talks to his teammates.

“It was very impressive when I watched him live (behind-closed doors last season). Even when he runs, he talks.”

Muller has been dominating the Bundesliga scene with Bayern Munich for the majority of his career.

To see the German international showcase his quick-thinking, versatile and elegant craft on the Premier League stage would be something.

But, regardless of how big Newcastle’s pockets have become, they would have to do very well to be able to lure a player of his calibre to St James’ Park.

In the long run, the aim for Newcastle is to land players of Muller’s quality at their peak, or just before they are going to hit the top.

But, they have to sort out their short term before they can start running towards much higher heights.
