Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Harry Kane and his future at Spurs.

Cast your mind back 12 months, Harry Kane was desperate to get out of Tottenham and Manchester City seemed to be at the front of the queue to sign the England captain, lodging a bid for the striker at the time.

However, as we all know, the ‘world-class’ striker ended up staying at Spurs, and after an uptick in form and the hiring of Antonio Conte, he’s once again settled in north London.

Now, the idea of Kane signing of a new contract has been touted in numerous circles, and while Gold is led to believe that Spurs haven’t opened talks on that front as of yet, the vibes he’s getting from Kane’s camp is that he’s now willing to discuss a new deal.

What’s been said?

Gold shared what he knows about Kane.

“I’m shocked that Spurs haven’t entered into contract talks with him yet, they haven’t offered anything up yet, but it has to be a no-brainer now, all of the vibes we’re getting from those around Kane is that he’s willing to talk about a new deal because he’s very happy at Tottenham now in the Conte-era, so I say get it done because you’re dealing with one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history,” Gold said.

The same mistake

Spurs fans won’t like to hear this, but we can’t help but feel that Kane would be making a mistake in signing a new deal at Spurs.

Let’s not forget, Kane was held to ransom last summer due to his contract situation handing Spurs a position of power, and he could be about to make the same mistake again.

Kane may be happy at Tottenham right now, but he needs to keep in mind how quickly things can change in football.

Yes, Antonio Conte has injected a new life into this side, but the Italian’s contract is up at the end of the season and he’s been known to unceremoniously dump his clubs in the past.

For all of Spurs’ good work over the past 6 months, they’ve still not won a trophy, and if something goes downhill with Conte in the near future, Kane may well be back to square one in terms of being unhappy at the club.

Kane needs to weigh up all of the pros and cons before committing his future to Tottenham.
