Tony Cascarino has suggested that Aston Villa could make a stunning move for Philippe Coutinho.
The Barcelona playmaker has been linked with a return to the Premier League.
Coutinho left Liverpool in a £142 million move in 2018, where he played alongside Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard for a time.
The 41-year-old is a big fan of the Brazilian maestro, labelling him ‘magical‘ some eight years ago.
Speaking in midweek, Gerrard cryptically suggested that he and the Villans’ board were only looking at big players to sign this month and beyond.
And with Coutinho linked with a return to English football, Cascarino feels that signing the former Liverpool star could make a lot of sense.
He told talkSPORT: “Gerrard knows Coutinho. He might think he knows how to get the best out of him.
“I’m talking that level of transfer. A player at the very top end who has played for the biggest clubs, and been successful. I think that’s where Gerrard’s coming from.”
Unrealistic
If Gerrard did hint at big players, this is surely a level above anything Aston Villa fans could’ve imagined.
Even if they can afford a transfer fee, Coutinho is earning mega wages at Camp Nou and therefore it’s hard to see this being a realistic shout.
