Rangers boss Mark Waburton worked with Jota at Brentford and now wants to bring him to Ibrox.

Rangers are said to be keen on bringing Spanish playmaker Jota to Ibrox this winter.

The Scottish Sun previously reported that Gers boss Mark Warburton had been in contact with Brentford about bringing the player to Ibrox in January and now his current loan club Eibar have confirmed he will return to parent club Brentford next month.

So should Rangers make a move for the player?

Positives

On a positive Jota is a very skilled player. He was performing brilliantly for an over-achieving Brentford side in the Championship. He was doing so under the tutelage of Rangers boss Warburton during his tenure at Griffin Park.

Therefore, the Rangers boss knows how to get the best out of him and Jota would also be filling a position where improvement is needed at Ibrox after the injury to Niko Kranjcar.

Negatives

Since the start of last season Jota has only played 25 times – with the majority of those coming as a substitute.

His match fitness is therefore unlikely to be up to scratch.

Rangers would be taking a punt.

The verdict?

Jota is something of a gamble, given his recent lack of action.

But if they could agree a loan deal, with the view to an affordable permanent transfer, then Jota is worth a roll of the dice for the ingenuity he could bring to Rangers’ sometimes unsubtle attacking displays.
