The versatile Anderlecht player has been linked with a move to Liverpool this week.

The story

Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Ghanaian Frank Acheampong from Anderlecht to help aid their left-sided defensive problems.

It was reported by The Sun earlier this week that the 23-year-old was in the crosshairs of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp – who has been impressed with his performances in Belgium.

Positives

Liverpool are clearly in need of a left-back option. James Milner is performing well in the role at present but Alberto Moreno clearly does not have the trust of the Liverpool boss.

Acheampong is an energetic and tough competitor who would fit Klopp’s style of play to a tee.

Negatives

Acheampong can play at left-back, but began his career as a winger and that is still considered his main position. Therefore, there is certainly a concern they would be replacing Moreno with a similar, if not identical player, and not improve the team.

He is also off to the African Cup of Nations next month, so would be unavailable immediately.

The verdict?

Acheampong is a very talented player who can fill a void in the Liverpool side that needs to be addressed.

However, Liverpool could do better and bring in a left-back with better defensive attributes then the Ghanaian. Liverpool should look elsewhere.
