Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a better dribbling success rate than Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
Arsenal take on Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend, but will have to do so without their most efficient dribbler.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the one player in the Gunners squad who succeeds with a higher percentage of the take-ons he attempts than the player of the year candidate, although only just.
The England international is currently injured and has not featured for the club in April.
| Team | Won Dribbles per game | Dribbles Attempted per game | Beating A Player Accuracy | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eden Hazard | Chelsea | 4.78 | 7.31 | 61.94 | 32 |
| Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | Arsenal | 3.77 | 5.55 | 62.88 | 22 |
| Alexis Sánchez | Arsenal | 3.52 | 5.9 | 53.4 | 29 |
Oxlade-Chamberlain wins a higher percentage of his one on one battles than Hazard, and that trickery would have been handy for Arsenal to have at their disposal this weekend.
The Gunners star played a key role in helping the side beat Manchester United at Old Trafford last month, delivering the assist for the opener.
PremierInjuries.com cite Oxlade-Chamberlain’s comeback date as May 4, the away trip to relegation battling Hull City, and if he can stay fit for the run in there is still a place in the FA Cup final up for grabs.
Oxlade-Chamberlain can be vital for Arsenal because he can play centrally in midfield or out wide, but he has plenty to do if he is to develop his trickery and power into production.
He has a higher success rate than in form Eden Hazard when it comes to dribbling, but the Belgian has nine goals from open play to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s one.
The figures from the 22 games he has played in the league this season show that he does have a key talent in his locker which few players in the league can compete with, but to really kick on, just like Jack Wilshere he needs to have a consistent injury free season in 2015/16 to lock himself into Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up as a must pick.
