Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has described Harry Kane and Carlos Vinicius as his side’s best defenders against Aston Villa on Football London.
Tottenham ran out 2-0 winners, as Mourinho’s men finally got back to winning ways.
Mourinho sprung a surprise with his team selection, with Kane and Vinicius partnering each other from the off in a Premier League game for the first-time.
The pair linked well, with both of them getting on the scoresheet.
But it was their defensive work which particularly pleased the Spurs boss, as he felt that they give the side a platform on which to build a clean-sheet.
“This kind of positivity is something that the team needed. I think it was good. The two best defenders on our team were Harry Kane and Vinicius,” he said.
“In the first half they didn’t have a shot. In the second half of course there is always a corner, always a shot, always a second ball but when you start defending with your two strikers, the team is solid and in control. So we had lots of positive things.”

Tottenham haven’t shut out the opposition on enough occasions this season, so their clean-sheet here would have pleased Mourinho.
Spurs actually were put under pressure early on, but they really limited Villa’s shooting opportunities, as they picked up a vital three points.
Tottenham have now moved up to sixth in the Premier League table, and are only three points behind the top four.
