Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing the race for Lisandro Martinez’s signature.

The Ajax defender is being courted by both Manchester United and Arsenal at the moment, and while some reports state that Manchester United are leading the race for the defender, Jacobs is led to believe that Arsenal are extremely confident about landing this signing.

The reporter delivered a very interesting update on this situation, stating that United are actually prioritising Martinez over the likes of Antony and Frenkie De Jong, but, he thinks that Arsenal believe they will get this one over the line.

What’s been said?

Jacobs shared what he’s been hearing about Martinez.

“If you talk to Manchester United sources, they reveal that Ten Hag is pushing really hard, this is the priority more so than Antony and maybe more than De Jong because that deal has stalled,” Jacobs said.

“It’s easy to say that he knows Ten Hag and he likes Ten Hag, Manchester United just have to agree a fee and it’s a deal done, but the twist as I said is that Arsenal are also extremely confident, the challenge for United coming in late was that Arsenal are more advanced. Martinez was very sold on talking to Arteta.”

Telling

We don’t know what the outcome of this transfer race will be, but it will be very telling if Martinez does join Arsenal.

Logic would suggest that Manchester United would be the obvious option for the defender. After all, he knows Erik ten Hag very well and he’d fit the Dutchman’s system.

However, if Martinez does snub United for Arsenal, that will say a lot about the Red Devils’ standing within the footballing world right now.

With Cristiano Ronaldo pushing for a move and the Red Devils struggling for signings, United aren’t in a good place right now, and if Martinez turns them down, that will just compile the misery at Old Trafford.
