Jamie Redknapp has said that Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta had ‘fooled’ everyone into thinking that their squad was good enough on the Pitch to Post podcast.

Arsenal won the FA Cup last season and made huge progress under Arteta.

However, the Gunners have unravelled somewhat this term, and currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League table.

Arsenal have badly struggled to pick up results, and there has been a distinct lack of quality on display.

Arsenal are still suffering with long-term problems, and Redknapp feels that the limitations that Arteta was once hiding in his team are now being exposed.

“I think what it has shown us is that maybe we were fooled, because when he first took over he managed to get a real tune out of this team,” Redknapp said.

“We were like it must be the other managers’ fault, this is actually a good squad and the players that are playing are better than what they’ve shown under previous managers but actually, maybe the truth is, that they aren’t actually that good and the squad isn’t that good.

“He’s now struggling. They had a bit of a run, they played well for a while, but they can’t maintain it.

“You do feel that the gap between the two North London sides is getting bigger and bigger.”

Arteta has actually fallen under pressure at times this season after Arsenal’s poor start and the discontent is only like to rise if the Gunners are beaten this weekend.

Arsenal are due to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and if they are defeated, then they will slip to a staggering 11 points behind their local rivals at this early stage of the season.
