Rangers defender Nikola Katic maybe hasn’t quite lived up to his potential yet, and Steven Gerrard will hope to see him fully emerge next season.

The Croatian centre back has shown some promise since arriving from Slaven Belupo in 2018. He’s had some superb performances, and some head-scratching moments.

Katic may well start next season as third-choice behind Connor Goldson and Filip Helander. He should have the chance to prove himself, as its unlikely that Rangers will axe him this summer.

Today, rumours have emerged about Katic. The Daily Record note that Katic has been linked with a moe to Dijon this summer.

This isn’t quite right though. They cite reports from Sportsklub back in Croatia, who cite ‘French media reports’ – but it seems there have been some crossed wires here.

Katic to Dijon has indeed been mentioned in France and on social media, but only by the Twitter account @Actu_Fifa_. Their tweet reads ‘According to L’Équipe, Dijon intends to recruit Nikola Katić. The young defender of Rangers would be interested in the Dijon project.’

However, this account is a fan who is playing through a FIFA 20 Career Mode as Dijon. They have tweeted their signings and various factors in their game, and seemingly wanted to add some realism by suggesting that L’Equipe – France’s main football outlet – were reporting interest in Katic.

The rumour has seemingly snowballed from that tweet, gathering pace in Croatia which has then made its way to Scotland. Rumours can gather pace quickly, but this one is merely something from somebody’s game of FIFA 20, rather than anything grounded in reality.
