Emiliano Martinez has praised Tottenham defender Cristian Romero on Instagram for ‘the trust’ he provides him in Argentina colours.
The Aston Villa and Spurs duo were in action on Monday morning when they helped their country to a 3-0 win over Uruguay in their World Cup qualifier.
Only last week, both players were locking horns when Spurs beat Villa 2-1 in the Premier League.
But this time around, they were playing their part in their country, not only picking up three points, but also keeping the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani at bay.
After the game, Romero reacted to last night’s victory and Villa’s £17m shot-stopper (BBC Sport) sent him this message in the comments section: “The trust you give me.”
If Romero and Martinez continue in their ways then they should be long-term players for Argentina in years to come.
Whilst the Villa man has been around for some while, he only made his international bow last season.
But he is in the form of his life, one of the best keepers in the world and hoping that number one spot is his for many more years.
Romero will also be hoping to marshal the troops ahead of him and also become a regular for Spurs.
It has taken him some while, but that win against Villa might have now put him in the driving seat to be a regular at the back for Nuno Espirito Santo.
The only problem now is that Argentina face Uruguay on Friday morning, only 24 hours or so before Premier League football returns to action.
