Novak Djokovic was within reach of a record 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, but couldn’t quite close it out.
Following an epic semi-final win over Jannik Sinner at Melbourne Park, Djokovic met Carlos Alcaraz in the final, with both players chasing a place in the history books.
It was Alcaraz who came out on top, fighting back from a set down to become the youngest player ever to achieve a Career Grand Slam.
Djokovic has been chasing his 25th major since winning his 24th at the US Open in 2023. And while time isn’t on his side at nearly 39 years old, former world number 30 Kristof Vliegen believes there’s still one tournament where he has a real shot to make it happen.
Kristof Vliegen weighs in on Djokovic’s Grand Slam prospects

Speaking to TSH Tennis, Vliegen was asked if Djokovic has a realistic shot at Roland Garros. He responded: “Paris, I think he has, I don’t want to say no chance, but less chance, because it’s so physical.”
“Don’t forget, he needs to beat them both (Alcaraz and Sinner). If both keep on winning, he needs to beat them both, and he needs to beat them both in 48 hours.
“So, imagine he beats Sinner in the semifinals; he is not going to beat them in two hours and five minutes. He is not going to be fresh on Sunday, I’m sorry. It’s going to take a while to beat them.
“So is he able to do that against them in Paris? I don’t think so. Do I think that he has something to do at Wimbledon?
“I would not be surprised if at Wimbledon he is going to be closer than the others.”
Novak Djokovic’s form at Wimbledon
Wimbledon has always been a stronghold for Novak Djokovic throughout his career, providing the backdrop for some of his most memorable victories.
Of his 24 major titles, seven have come on the grass at the All England Club, with his last victory there coming in 2022.
However, since that win, Djokovic has come close without adding another title. He’s lost two finals to Carlos Alcaraz and was knocked out by Jannik Sinner in the semifinals last year.
If he manages to lift the trophy again this year, he’ll draw level with Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles.
