Michael Owen has blasted Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte for his emotional rant following his side’s 3-3 draw at Southampton on Saturday.

The former England striker stated that he is ‘bored’ of watching Spurs in recent times and he thinks Conte needs to take responsibility for his own actions, rather than throwing ‘all his team’ under the bus, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (18/03/23 at 8:15 pm).

There is never a dull moment when Jose Mourinho is about and the same could be said for Conte.

The duo have many things in common, even though previously they haven’t seen eye-to-eye, but one thing they have done, and will always continue to do, is speak their mind.

Well, Conte put his foot on the accelerator and called out everything and anything after his team let a 3-1 goal slip to draw 3-3 against a team in Southampton that’s sitting bottom of the Premier League table.

But, rather than looking at Daniel Levy or the players, Michael Owen thinks the former Inter Milan and Juventus boss needs to find a mirror because he feels the Italian is responsible for the club’s current mess.

“He has to take some responsibility as well,” said Owen. “It’s alright saying the players are like this. Yes, he can point to an illustrious career and winning trophies as a manager as well.

“But, at the end of the day, he is the manager controlling these players. There are a lot of good players. And they are a very inconsistent team. He says ‘Oh, I need time, I need time, I need time’. But I don’t see any progress. I have been bored watching Tottenham for a long, long time now. You don’t know what you are going to get from one week to another.

“Is it all the players’ fault, is it?! He talks about Tottenham players being selfish, this that and the other. There was no shared blame there (in his rant) and he is the main man in the hot seat. He’s got control and he is picking the team.

“I feel like he is throwing all his team under the bus and talking about Tottenham ‘never having the right attitude’. I would also be asking the question about him. I think Tottenham fans, the board and I think everyone else, is probably looking at that thinking ‘he’s not going to be here’. It seems like he’s trying to get out, saying what he is saying. I don’t know how committed he is to Tottenham. I would be surprised if he is the manager of Tottenham next season.”

IS ANYONE SURPRISED?

The answer should be a big fat ‘NO’ because many would have seen this coming and it isn’t a surprise it’s going to end this way.

It would be a shock if Conte is still in charge of Tottenham next season, in truth, he will probably be out of the door by the time the final ball is kicked in May.

Wherever Conte has been or gone, he always leaves a trail of some sort, it usually results in him leaving, but not before he can win trophies.

The problem with Tottenham, Conte is going to be the second trophy-winning manager not being able to end their drought.
