Speaking on Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin’s YouTube Channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared an interesting development about Gareth Bale at Spurs.
The Welsh winger’s return to Tottenham has been something of a non-event so far, with Bale playing in just five league games since arriving in the summer.
Originally, it was thought that Bale would stay at Spurs beyond this season, but now that seems more and more unlikely, with Romano saying that the Tottenham board have told Bale to step it up.
“If he will continue like this, I think no, I think it will be difficult,” Romano said when asked if Bale will be staying beyond this season.
“I’m told that the Tottenham board told Gareth Bale ‘it’s up to you in the second part of the season you have to show your skills, we want the real Gareth Bale on the pitch.’ In this case they are ready to talk to Real Madrid, just because when Tottenham and Real madrid signed the deal for Bale last summer they were discussing that next summer they’d talk again.
“Tottenham were open to try to extend the loan or sign Gareth Bale or discuss the situation of Gareth Bale, also for the future and not just for for a one season loan.
“Now the situation is different because the player is not at his best level yet with Tottenham, so they are expecting something different from Gareth Bale in the second half of the season.”

This is certainly an interesting development.
It’s one thing for your manager to tell you to step things up, but when the board are telling you to do better, that’s something else entirely.
Everyone at Tottenham wants Bale to do well, and in an ideal world, his homecoming will have the fairytale ending and he’ll extend his stay into next season, but unless he heeds the board’s advice, that doesn’t seem likely to happen.
Fingers crossed Bale can rediscover his form sooner rather than later.
