After what has ultimately been a disappointing first season back in the Scottish top flight, HITC Sport have been taking a look at some of the best ever Rangers comebacks.
A club who have experienced plenty of the many highs and lows of football, Rangers have enjoyed some absolutely fantastic results over the years. Shocking football supporters across the country on more than one occasion. Here’s a look at our top three contenders for the title of Rangers’ best ever comebacks.
1. Aberdeen 2-3 Rangers (September 26th 2010)
Rangers’ Kenny Miller celebrates
After just 30 minutes, Rangers found themselves 2-0 down at Pittodrie, a ground they hadn’t won at for four years previous. Goals from Scott Vernon and Chris Maguire had put Aberdeen in the driving seat, but it hadn’t silenced the Rangers faithful. A 34th minute penalty allowed Kenny Miller to bring the Gers back into the game, and the striker then equalised for Rangers on the 52nd minute, before Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic fired home the winner to cap off a remarkable win.
2. Rangers 3-2 Celtic (September 10th, 1978)

Celtic had a bright start, and at half time led 2-0 through two Edvaldsson headers, as the big Icelander gave the Rangers centre-backs a tough afternoon. However, after making two changes at half time, Rangers began to take the initiative. Goals from Smith and Johnstone brought the Gers level, with Smith tapping home the winner in the 81st minute. The win acted as a huge blow to Celtic’s season, and ended being one they would not recover from for the rest of the season, much to the delight of Rangers fans.
3. Celtic 2-3 Rangers (May 4th 2002)
Rangers Peter Lovenkrands scores against Celtic
2-1 down after 65 minutes, Celtic looked to have the 2002 Scottish Cup final in the bag after goals from John Hartson and Bobo Balde. A belter from Barry Ferugson brought the game level on the 69th minute however, and after a hard fought battle against their old enemy, Rangers secured the win in the 90th thanks to a second goal from fan favourite Peter Lovenkrands. The game goes down as one of the best Scottish Cup finals in history.
