With their return to the Premier League looking unlikely this season, HITC Sport has been taking a look at some of the best ever Aston Villa comebacks.
A club who have been through more highs and lows than most over the last few years, Aston Villa have enjoyed some absolutely fantastic results in their illustrious history. Often shocking football supporters across the country on more than one occasion. Here’s a look at our top three contenders for the title of Aston Villa’s best ever comebacks.
1. Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-3 Aston Villa (January 21st 2012)
Aston Villa’s Robbie Keane
It was a comeback made all the sweeter being against Aston Villa’s midlands rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers. Darren Bent’s penalty put Aston Villa in front, only for Michael Kightly to equalise for Wolves, followed by a David Edwards goal to put them ahead. Despite having a mountain to climb, Aston Villa’s loan striker Robbie Keane drew the Villans level before scoring a stunning goal to win them the game with 15 minutes to go.
2. Tottenham Hotspur 2-4 Aston Villa (April 15th, 2000)

Goals from Steffen Iversen and Chris Armstrong had Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 up against Villa, but in just 12 minutes, John Gregory’s side managed to conjure up one of the most exciting comebacks in Villa fans’ memories. A Dion Dublin penalty, followed by a stunning overhead kick, brought the Villans level, before Benito Carbone put them in front with a cracking volley. Dion Dublin added another to complete his hat-trick, scoring yet another screamer, this time from 25-yards.
3. Aston Villa 3-2 Arsenal (December 13th 1998)
