Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be competitive in the transfer market this summer as he looks to set his side up well for a Premier League and Champions League assault next season.

The Blues have been linked with a variety of players over the past week, with speculation still hanging around over a deal for Spanish international Diego Costa which seems to be Mourinho’s priority this summer.

We’ve taken a look at the rumour mill and judged five of the best players linked with the club.

Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

Sky claimed earlier this week that Chelsea had agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for the striker. However, no official announcement has followed as the player prepares to potentially win La Liga this weekend ahead of a Madrid derby in the Champions League final.

Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich)

Mandzukic is reportedly on the table from Bayern Munich in a swap deal that could see David Luiz heading in the opposite direction. The Bayern forward would certainly increase the number of options Mourinho has available in the attacking section of his squad.

Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim)

Rated at around the £15 million mark, the Guardian suggested earlier this week that Mourinho was keen on adding Firmino to his attack alongside Costa, creating one of the most exciting and daunting attacking partnerships in the Premier League next season.

Mehdi Benatia (AS Roma)

A defensive player this time, with the Blues reportedly monitoring Benatia’s situation at Roma. This could be one of the more difficult deals for Mourinho to pull off with Manchester City and Manchester United both thought to be interested in snapping him up after the World Cup.

Dele Alli (MK Dons)

This is more of an investment on the part of the West Londoners as they look to snap up one of League One’s best talents. Alli is also highly rated by Premier League champions Manchester City, which means a deal to sign him from the MK Dons could become very expensive.
