Lucas Moura has claimed on Instagram that his Tottenham teammate Oliver Skipp is ‘always working hard’.
The flying Spurs winger described the 21-year-old as ‘the tireless man’, whilst posing alongside the midfielder in training.
Skipp was on-loan at Norwich City last season and helped them earn promotion to the Premier League.
Prior to that loan spell, Skipp did get a brief taste of first-team football in North London, under Mauricio Pochettio’s stewardship, but he wasn’t able to cement his place in the side.
But, upon his returnm from his loan spell this summer, he is back in Tottenham colours and firing on all cylinders.
A couple of seasons ago, someone like Harry Winks and Dele Alli would have, not just been ahead of Skipp on the domestic stage, but also England internationals.
Yet now, at least Winks, who plays in a similar role to his fellow academy product, is performing nowhere to his level and it’s Skipp who is probably closer to earning that England call now.
Skipp seems like the younger version of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who outside of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane, has possibly been Tottenham’s best player since he arrived.
In recent seasons, Tottenham have had a number of defensive issues, with key players leaving because they were at the end of their careers or injuries have just caused havoc upon them.
Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose, are just some of those players.
But especially since Dembele and Wanyama’s departures, Spurs haven’t replaced them and been the same in the middle of the park – of course, the attack-minded Christian Eriksen is another.
And whilst Hojbjerg and Skipp aren’t at their levels yet, added with an in-form Tanguy Ndombele, that midfield is once again starting to come to life, but there is still a long way to go yet.
