If they signed these three, not only would Chelsea have arguably the most complete team in the Premier League, they would have the most imposing one from a hairstyle point of view too.
Chelsea’s ambition seems to have no bounds, and don’t bet against another big spend this January and next summer.
This should be their shortlist:
Falcao, Fellaini, Willian.
Falcao became a number one target after impressing against them for Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup, and Willian, already heavily linked, did himself no harm at all with his brace at Stamford Bridge last night for Shakhtar.
As well as his magnificent performance last night, one of the things which stood out head and shoulders above the rest of the players on the pitch was his superb afro haircut.
It was reminiscent of the Premier League’s finest proponent of the same style, Marouane Fellaini.
The Everton midfielder emerged as a target for Chelsea over the summer, and has been in superb form for the Toffees this season scoring five goals in nine Premier League appearances.
It’s doubtful the player could be tempted away this January, with Everton in excellent form, but don’t be surprised to see Chelsea give it a go, if not in the next transfer window then next summer.
The Belgian caused controversy back in September when he discussed his ambition to play at the highest level while on international duty and desire to quit Goodison Park, before quickly retracting his words and claiming the part about leaving Everton was mistranslated.
Hmmm. When he goes on international duty with Belgium and sees Eden Hazard, Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen and co. all competing in the Champions League, it’s hard to believe there is not a tinge of jealousy. At 24, the time is right for a big move, and Chelsea should try to beat Manchester United to his signature.
Is he an upgrade from Jon Obi Mikel? No disrespect to the improving Nigerian, but the answer is yes, he is, and he would add a completely new dimension to the side in central midfield alongside Ramires.
Falcao sort of speaks for himself. There is simply no better striker in world football at present, and his season record of 13 goals in 10 games tells its own story. He can score with either foot, with his head, tap ins, or volleys. At 26, Chelsea can ensure he becomes the figurehead of their attack for the next five years plus. He very much is the natural replacement for Didier Drogba, and £48 million Euros can be considered a bargain.
So onto Willian, do Chelsea need him? Where would he fit in alongside Oscar, Hazard and Mata? You could say the same thing about Victor Moses, where does he fit in, but he proved he can by heading the matchwinner last night. His versatility means he can play across the frontline and even up front, and he would be an exciting addition to the attack.
So long as Shakhtar do not ask for silly money, which they may, then Chelsea should look to snap him up if they can. Of course Chelsea can’t go spending big money forever, but these three would undoubtedly give them the most powerful midfield and attack in the Premier League.
And there is a part of us which would like to see the afro-haired trio of Luiz, Willian, and Fellaini all line up alongside each other…
