Jose Enrique has agreed that Liverpool’s recent capture, Fabio Carvalho, needs to ‘build muscle’ because the ‘talent is there’, as he posted on his Instagram story.

The former left-back added that he is certain the 20-year-old can be ‘really good for us’ – he has two goals from his opening six Premier League matches.

What’s even better about that for Carvalho is that he has only started one of those league games, so he hasn’t even got his engine warm yet on Merseyside.

The former Fulham man, who joined for £5 million (The Athletic), was subbed off at half-time during Liverpool’s goalless draw in the Merseyside derby last week.

That’s not a slight on the player because Jurgen Klopp has a lot of issues across the board, from Virgil van Dijk’s form to Mo Salah’s drop in performances.

But one of the club’s shining lights is Carvalho, as Enrique agreed that the Portugal U21 international needs to bulk up.

“Agreed (Carvalho needs a bit of muscle),” said Enrique. “The talent is there, no doubt about that and so far so good.

“But he is still very young and he has a lot to improve on. He can definitely be really good for us.”

KLOPP’S MIDFIELD PROBLEMS

James Milner has started three games for the Reds this season, perhaps more matches than Klopp intended for him to play in.

Added with that, Jordan Henderson has started the season in a poor fashion and Thiago Alcantara’s injury has also added to the club’s midfield woes.

That continues when the Reds were beaten 4-1 at Napoli on their opening night of the Champions League, as Klopp hinted that changes might be made.

Could that mean more starts for Carvalho? Or will the new signing be reigned back because this isn’t the time to throw the youngster into such pressure moments for the club.
