Brentford’s Dean Smith is on West Brom’s shortlist but there are two important reasons the club may struggle to appoint him.
West Bromwich Albion currently have a three-man shortlist of managers they are seriously considering as a permanent replacement for Alan Pardew.
Pardew was sacked on Monday (April 2) following a 2-1 home defeat to Burnley at the weekend in the Premier League – the Baggies’ ninth successive loss.
Problem with Smith
The latter is actually from West Bromwich and still has family living in the village Streetly in the West Midlands area, so a return there would seem like a good fit.
However, after two-and-a-half years in charge of the Bees, Smith has only recently moved to the capital to base himself near Griffin Park.
The Baggies would therefore have to convince the 47-year-old to make that upheaval in his life all over again and also leave a club with whom he only signed a contract extension with until the end of the 2019/20 season in February.
