The Chelsea striker is in fine form this season, despite his injury woes.

There are a number of clubs that know just what Loic Remy is capable of right now.

One is former side Queens Park Rangers, who will still rue the fact they cannot partner the Frenchman with the in-form Charlie Austin. Another is Liverpool, who turned down the chance to sign Remy at the last minute and may just be regretting it.

The third, of course, is Chelsea, the only side to benefit from his goalscoring exploits as they took the option to sign him from QPR this summer.

The final club, though, also missed out on the 27-year-old’s signature – but they were turned down (repeatedly, according to reports) by the striker.

And that club may just feel the full force of their regret this weekend, as Chelsea – and Remy – travel to Newcastle United this Saturday.

Indeed, as Opta stats show, Loic Remy is actually Chelsea’s most clinical striker in the league. Yes, Diego Costa is their top scorer by far – but Remy is marginally better in terms of his minutes per goal ratio.

That would mean, based on his current average, that he would have scored slightly more (or just as many) goals as Costa had he played as many minutes so far this season.

Against Newcastle, the 27-year-old may well feature, as Alan Pardew suspects Jose Mourinho could bench Costa in his favour.

And how the St James’ Park faithful would hate seeing Remy net against the Magpies, having spent last campaign on loan with the club. But, seeing as he is more clinical than any Newcastle or Chelsea striker in the Premier League this term, that outcome looks a distinct possibility.
