Leicester City’s decline has been one of the talking points of the Premier League this season, and this statistic highlights exactly why.

Less than eight months ago, Leicester City were flying high as the unlikely champions of England. It seemed as if they could do no wrong but as was predicted by many, the pressure of defending the title coupled with their Champions League ventures has proven to be too much. As of right now they find themselves lingering just above the relegation zone, and this stat in particular shows just how far they have fallen.

At this stage, the Foxes officially have the lowest points total after 20 games for a reigning Premier League champion, with just 21 on the board. This is even lower than Chelsea last season, who despite their total collapse still managed to pick up 23 points by this point in the campaign.

It’s hard to say how everything has gone wrong this year, but when it comes down to it the spark that Leicester had last season has just evaporated. As a team, they are not functioning as a cohesive unit and selling N’Golo Kante to Chelsea could prove to be one of the biggest mistakes they have made in years.

The focus has certainly been put on the Champions League run which has indeed led to them reaching the knockout stages, but the priorities of the club have to be called into question. After all, should they be eliminated by Sevilla it suddenly becomes crystal clear to fans that European football could once again become a distant memory in the next few years.
