Leeds United owned Michael Tonge adds value for loan side Millwall in a key area.

Millwall pulled off the transfer deadline day loan signing of Leeds United midfielder Michael Tonge, which left Ian Holloway purring over the experience and versatility of his new player.

It seems like a great deal for the club trying to pull clear of the relegation places in the Championship, but how does he compare to the midfielders already at the club across several key areas?

In terms of tackles, interceptions and dribbling he’s got some work to do.

It’s difficult to be overly harsh because he’s not played as much as some of Millwall’s other midfield options, but he needs to improve those key areas if he’s going to have an impact for the side over the rest of the season.

Where he definitely adds quality is in terms of his passing accuracy of 81%, which ranks well against the numbers of his new teammates.

What that suggests is that he’ll add quality in the middle in terms of how he protects the ball. He passes sensibly and will help Millwall maintain pressure over their opponents in big games.

If they can get him on the ball he can move possession forward quickly and effectively and that seems to be the main asset he will inject into the side.
