The stat which makes Juan Mata difficult for van Gaal to drop

Juan Mata continued a great run of form with a goal for Manchester United against QPR.

Juan Mata’s goal against Queens Park Rangers yesterday, allowed him to continue a great run of form, which makes him very difficult for Louis van Gaal to drop.

When Radamel Falcao reaches a state of peak match fitness, Mata has been tipped as the man who will make way as LvG looks to fit Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Falcao into the same attack.

However, Mata is on a positive run of form which has seen him net eight goals in his last ten Premier League games for the club, which is a set of stats that plenty of managers would find difficult to overlook.

The problem van Gaal has is what to do with one of his three main strikers if he wants them all in the same team.

The obvious solution if for Wayne Rooney to drop off from the front and into midfield, which would cause one of the current central players to lose his position.

Daley Blind provides a defensive edge in the middle of the team, which has been missing while Ander Herrera pulled the strings beautifully in attack against QPR.

Angel Di Maria’s effectiveness off of the left hand side showed what he can do, justifying his record summer price tag but Mata is giving himself every chance of making any decision as difficult as possible for his Dutch boss.

Sooner or later van Gaal is going to have an extremely difficult decision on his hands but for now, as Falcao gains match fitness slowly, Mata has the chance to continue his great form and justify his position.
