Has Liverpool’s new hero Mohamed Salah peaked too soon?

Mohammed Salah has had an absolute scorcher of a debut season for Liverpool, surpassing all expectations to become the top goalscorer in the Premier League.
The Egyptian forward has scored 31 goals this season, tying him with Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez’s record. And he is just a few goals away from beating the overall Premier League record of 34, which stands from the old 42-game campaign.

But there is one stat that suggests Salah may struggle to replicate his goalscoring form next season.
He has missed 21 big chances for Liverpool this campaign, which is more than any other player in the league. Behind him is Christian Benteke with 20, Alvaro Morata with 17, Harry Kane with 16 and Sergio Aguero with 13.
Luckily, Salah has been part of an attacking setup that has given him plenty of opportunities to make up for that stat, but if the chances dry up next season he made need to become more clinical.

Salah added to his tally of big chances missed against Stoke City at the weekend. The forward was clean through on goal and had a simple one-on-one with goalkeeper Jack Butland, but produced a contender for miss of the season when he chipped wide of the goal.
Some fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Salah’s wastefulness, despite him still being the league’s top scorer.
Of course, Salah has created many of his own chances, which suggests goals will always be an inevitability for the player, even if he squanders a vast number of opportunities.
But beating or even equalling his impressive tally for this season will prove to be a major challenge, but that is a testament to just how well the former Roma attacker has done this season in a Liverpool shirt.
