Emmanuel Adebayor needs to improve a key area of his game if he doesn’t want to be sold by Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has been linked with a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Adebayor has been one of Mauricio Pochettino’s primary attacking players so far this season but reports this morning have suggested QPR are mulling over a potential winter swoop to try and sign him.

His numbers in terms of goals, assists, touches and accurate passes have by no means been impressive but they are roughly what to expect from a striker of his type.

The one standout stat which he’ll have to improve if he doesn’t want to leave the club is the number of times he’s giving the ball away, which will annoy his boss who bases his style around possession play.

Pochettino’s teams have always pressed high up the pitch looking to win the ball back before retaining it, controlling the flow of possession and wearing sides down to create chances.

That’s made easier when teams can play the ball up to their striker quickly, who can hold it up while the shape of the team moves higher up the pitch.

The only player to be dispossessed more than Adebayor in a Tottenham shirt this season is Erik Lamela but it’s evidence of a weakness in his game, which could lead to his exit if it doesn’t improve.

Spurs are solid financially and if they are well placed come the winter transfer window, the number of strikers they could get access to will increase.

Adebayor is under pressure, he always is at a big club like Spurs, and the only way for him to release that is to eradicate the weaknesses from his game which lead to him being criticised.

So Adebayor’s job is simple, score goals, create assists and stop giving the ball away so frequently.
