The staggering difference between Rangers and Celtic

Celtic’s goal difference highlights how much more dangerous they are than Rangers.

Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership this weekend with a victory over Aberdeen.

Having entered the weekend in fifth place, Rangers’ 3-0 win at home to Kilmarnock saw them climb to second place.

Nine points already appears an insurmountable gap for any team to catch Celtic, whose dominance over the rest of the league is highlighted by their goal difference.

Celtic have a record of +23, far superior to Rangers, whose stands at just +3.

The difference was of course swung by a 5-1 win for Celtic when the two sides met, but even without that, the league leaders’ record would be vastly superior.

The 3-0 weekend win was Rangers’ biggest league win of the season, with Mark Warburton’s side so far making tough work of winning games in the division.

Currently second, Rangers are making good progress, but the goal difference highlights just how Celtic are a cut above right now.

Until the Gers are routinely dispatching the rest of the league, they can’t hope to match up with and catch Celtic. Over the course of the season they can redress this, but there is clear room for improvement for the Light Blues to make.
