Speaking on the Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, Steve Madeley has shared an update on Sam Allardyce’s West Brom future.
The former England manager has tasted relegation from the Premier League for the first-time in his career, but the question remains, will he try to put it right by getting West Brom promoted next season?
It’s been a long time since Allardyce managed in the Championship, but Madeley believes that both parties are quite keen to continue working together.
“The sense I get from both sides is that there is loosely a will from Allardyce to stay and a will from West Brom for him to stay. That’s not to say that it’s a done deal, because West Brom are going to have to be convinced that Allardyce has the stomach for a Championship season and the hunger and the appetite for that notoriously gruelling season, while he’s going to have to be convinced that West Brom are going to give him the tools to build a team to do a job,” Madeley said.

This is a huge boost for West Brom.
Say what you will about Allardyce’s style of play, but he’s an incredibly effective manager who knows what it takes to be promoted from the Championship.
Of course, questions remain about his appetite to work at that level and whether or not the board are willing to back him, but if those two boxes are ticked, West Brom will be in a strong position heading into next season.
