Everton arguably had their best ever transfer window this summer. The Toffees signed high-profile stars James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure before sealing late deals for Robin Olsen and impressive young defender Ben Godfrey.
Carlo Ancelotti’s pulling power was evident and the signings have made their mark already. Everton sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League table after just one loss in their first six games.
Rodriguez, predictably, has stolen most of the headlines but Doucoure has been brilliant too in a less headline-grabbing way. The Frenchman moved to Goodison Park from Watford in a deal worth about £20 million (BBC).
Doucoure has started every game in the league so far and proved a great addition. And the former Watford man shed some light on a text he received from Everton captain Seamus Coleman just after he signed (Everton’s official website).
It read: “I am very happy you have signed. You are going to help us a lot.”
Doucoure, predictably, was delighted by the message from his new skipper.

He said: “I was very surprised. It was the first time I have known the captain of a team do that. I thought, ‘Wow, this is a great club’.”
Coleman isn’t the first name that springs to mind when you think of Everton these days. However, he is arguably their most important player off the pitch. The Irishman is a leader and his experience is a hugely important asset for this young Toffees squad.
Coleman, Doucoure and Co will be looking to build on their incredible start to the season. A finish in one of the European spots will be Everton’s aim, and it would be no surprise to see them there at the end of the season.
