Tottenham are again being linked with a move for AC Milan’s Suso.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Tottenham are keen on AC Milan winger Suso – the latest link between Mauricio Pochettino’s men and the Spaniard.

Spurs are expected to be in the market for a winger this summer, with Pochettino no doubt looking to re-tool his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.

Signings from last summer Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Moussa Sissoko made little to no impact last season, whilst Erik Lamela has been out injured since October – and could still be out for another four months through injury.

With Son Heung-min now potentially out for the start of the season with a broken arm, Spurs are lacking options out wide, and links to Suso are emerging once again.

The AC Milan wide man – formerly of Liverpool – has been linked with Spurs throughout 2017, and here is the timeline of the rumour that simply won’t go away.

  • March 2017: The Mirror claim Spurs hold an interest in signing Suso, having allegedly been impressed by his performances in Italy.

  • April 2017: Tutto Mercato Web report that Spurs sent a scout to watch Suso in action against Empoli.

  • June 2017: Marca state that Tottenham remain interested in signing Suso, given that he has yet to sign a new contract with Milan.

Today’s latest report suggests that Spurs could make a move to sign Suso this summer, after he hit seven goals and nine assists in 34 games for AC Milan last season.

However, there have to be questions asked about whether Suso is really what Spurs need right now. A right-sided winger who can cut inside on his left foot, Suso could be a like-for-like replacement for Lamela, but it may be pace rather than skill that Spurs need.

The likes of Son, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli are all talented ball-players, but don’t offer blistering pace that recent Spurs targets Wilfried Zaha or Bruma would have brought, had they not signed a new contract and moved to Leipzig respectively.

Suso would be another creative force but wouldn’t offer much in behind defences, which has been one of the few criticisms of Pochettino’s Spurs side – and to his credit, he has tried to rectify that with ultimately failed moves for Nkoudou, Sissoko and Clinton N’Jie.

Suso’s fellow Spaniard Inaki Williams, Lazio’s Keita Balde Diao or Monaco’s Thomas Lemar would make sense for Spurs to target if they do want more pace out wide, but with further links to Suso tonight, there may just be some substance to the speculation that Pochettino wants the 23-year-old in North London.
