Jose Enrique has claimed on Instagram that Jurgen Klopp made the ‘right choice’ in not bringing Ozan Kabak back to Liverpool.

Goal have claimed that Liverpool were offered the chance to re-sign the 21-year-old for £8.5 million.

But despite Liverpool having to pay such little for his services, Klopp made the brutal call of deciding against bringing him back, with Ibrahima Konate joining from RB Leipzig instead.

Former Reds defender, Enrique, shared that Liverpool were ‘very grateful’ for what Kabak did during his six months on Merseyside, but he just didn’t fit the type of defender Klopp looks for.

“We are here to talk about Kabak and the option to buy him for £8.5 million,” said Enrique. “To be honest with you, I don’t think he is the kind of centre-back that we play with.

“He (Klopp) likes to have tall centre-backs and strong centre-backs. If they can be quick as well.

“Obviously, he was very, very good on the ball. We are very, very grateful to have him for what he has done. He helped the team get to the top four this year.

“But I don’t think he is the type of centre-back that Klopp likes. In the Premier League, you need the tall centre-backs. For me, it’s a good option. How many centre-backs do you want? We already have a lot. I believe it’s the right choice.”

Kabak joined Liverpool during a very difficult period for the club when they were panic buying defenders.

The Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were already difficult to deal with, but then losing Matip in January just made matters worse.

Plus, the Schalke player wasn’t joining a team flying high, but one struggling with balance, form and the ability to put the ball into the back of the net.

But he still helped Liverpool secure a third-placed finish, which is pretty remarkable given the number of worrying situations they found themselves in.
