Tottenham Hotspur have struggled at their temporary home this season but perhaps a change is on the horizon.
Tottenham Hotspur and Wembley are not – at first glance – a match made in Heaven, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side understandably struggling for consistency in their temporary home.
Spurs are not the first club to falter in such circumstances and they will not be the last, but the return of two key players could make a huge difference to Tottenham’s ‘home’ games this season.
As impressive as Eric Dier and Harry Winks have been this season, the return of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama should ensure Tottenham play the type of football that can see them sweep sides away at Wembley as they regularly did at White Hart Lane last season.
Dembele has been out of action since September with an ankle injury while Wanyama’s knee injury has ruled him out just when Tottenham could do with him the most.
However, both are expected back soon and that should allow Tottenham to play the kind of football they need to take advantage of the Wembley pitch.
With Wanyama sitting and Dembele dictating the play Tottenham’s midfield would have the personnel required to turn Wembley into their own personal fortress and a title charge could be on the cards as a result.
While the Manchester clubs have impressed so far this season, Tottenham are keeping up with them, and with the imminent return of two such experienced midfielders, expect them to fight to the very end.
