Simon Jordan doesn’t think Eddie Howe will win a trophy at Newcastle United because the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal will make life ‘very difficult’ for them, as he told talkSPORT.

The former Crystal Palace owner added that Howe will be a ‘victim of his own success’, as he thinks teams like Tottenham ‘reigniting’ themselves won’t be of help.

It has been decades and decades since those in Newcastle colours watched their team lift a trophy.

Hopes of ending that would have gone up ten-fold when their new Saudi owners replaced Mike Ashley in the St James’ Park boardroom.

Of course, a trophy won’t be added to Newcastle’s cabinet this season, but, as Jordan mentioned, ‘expectations are going to rise’ in the future and he can’t see Howe being the guy to bring a trophy home.

“Do I think Eddie Howe will be around long enough to lay claim to Newcastle winning something,” said Jordan.

“Well, it took Manchester City, when the money landed at Manchester City. It took them three or four years to win the Premier League.

“I think the powerhouses that are Liverpool, Man City, irrespective of what happens to Chelsea when the change of ownership comes into play. The re-building of Arsenal and the re-igniting of Tottenham. They are going to make Newcastle’s job very difficult.

“I think Eddie Howe is going to be a stepping stone that’s going to build them out, give them some stability and give them some feel-good factor.

“But, the expectation levels are going to rise. Right now, Eddie Howe is the saviour – to win something is different gravy than to keep yourself in the division. My view is, Eddie Howe, will be a victim of his own success.”

It wasn’t so long ago that Newcastle couldn’t win a game of football for love nor money.

It was doom and gloom with Steve Bruce in the dugout and Mike Ashley pulling the strings from the top.

But now, with the richest owners in world football at the helm, ambitions sky-rocketing, life is very different for the Toon Army faithful.

It’s going to be interesting what the ambitions will be for next season, is it a case of taking baby steps and trying to finish in the top ten?

Or is it shooting for Champions League football straight away? Or dare it be said, the biggest of them all, the Premier League title?
