Speaking on The Red Agenda Podcast, James Pearce has been discussing Arthur Melo and how he’s getting on at Liverpool so far.

The Brazilian arrived at Anfield on deadline day in a loan deal from Juventus as the Reds looked to bolster their midfield ranks, but, as of yet, he’s not made an impact in the first-team.

According to Pearce, there’s an element of rustiness with Arthur due to the fact he was frozen out of the Juventus squad, and due to that fact, he’s being made to train in a separate group alongside Calvin Ramsay as they try to get up to speed.

What’s been said?

Pearce spoke about Arthur and Ramsay’s situation.

“Of course, he’s having to do more work than the other players at the minute because he hasn’t played competitively since May for Juventus, he didn’t get a proper pre-season having been frozen out by Allegri, so yeah there’s a degree of playing catch-up. The players are split into their own training groups and you have Calvin Ramsay and Arthur Melo as the two that need extra work, that’s not a slight that’s just the reality,” Pearce said

Could take some time

Arthur and Ramsay are working to get up to speed with the rest of the squad, but the sad reality is that this could take some time.

These two haven’t had a proper pre-season, and there are no friendlies to ease them into proceedings either.

There’s the odd U21 appearance that can aid both men’s development, but even then that isn’t really indicative of men’s competitive football.

Arthur and Ramsay will both be desperate to get out and play regularly for Jurgen Klopp’s first team, but sadly, they may have to wait a few more weeks before they’re deemed ready to make that step.
