Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Lille’s former Director Luis Campos has given his view on selling Sven Botman after he was linked to Liverpool.

Botman, of course, has been strongly linked to Liverpool in recent times, so it’s not surprising to hear that he was asked about that speculation, and unfortunately, it seems as though it’s bad news for any Liverpool fans hoping to see Botman signed this month.

Indeed, Campos made it clear that the club would need to think long and hard before deciding to sell Botman due to the fact that Lille are in line for such a strong season and selling an important player at this point could derail everything.

“Sven Botman is perhaps the biggest revelation of this first phase of the biggest five championships.

“Very few deduced that he could play at this level, I think it will still evolve more, economically speaking I think he exploded at the wrong time.

“But as I said a moment ago, I do not forsee that there will be transfers in January, with the value of debt of Victor Osimhen. Botman is a player with a big potential, I believe next season he will play in the highest level, but economically, this is not the time for this sort of price, like Victor Osimhen.”

Campos would go on to talk about Lille’s title chances and what that may mean for Botman’s departure.

“In my opinion, Lille have a good opportunity in this moment to win the Championship, the reality is, it’s the best year of the whole project. Lille have, in my opinion, a very very good team, a very very good coach and very very good conditions this year,” Campos said.

“I like the mentality and I think it’s a great opportunity for the club, I think the club need to think very well before selling players like Sven Botman.”

Campos will, of course, have been privy to these types of discussions before leaving Lille just two weeks ago, so we can take a lot out of what is being said here.

It seems as though Lille see Botman as something of a prized asset, so it makes sense for them to not want to sell him in January.

Campos only left Lille last month, so he’s still well-connected at the club, and he knows all about Botman, having overseen his signing from Ajax in the summer.

Unfortunately, Liverpool don’t look like signing him this month.
