Leeds are reportedly targeting Newcastle’s Karl Darlow.
Leeds United are targeting a new goalkeeper and Karl Darlow is currently the club’s top target, the Yorkshire Evening Post report.
Darlow would strengthen Leeds’ options, which look light after loanee Jamal Blackman suffered a season ending injury.
Darlow won promotion with Newcastle in 2016/17, before losing his place to Martin Dubravka.
While it would be a good deal for Leeds, Darlow may need some convincing.
This is because he would not be coming in as a first choice.
Leeds’ first choice goalkeeper is Bailey Peacock-Farrell, and he has earned his spot.
He was on the verge of losing his place to Blackman after he had a wobble in early November, before the Chelsea man got injured.
Since then Peacock-Farrell has returned to the side and played a key role as Leeds have won five straight matches, including making a vital penalty save against Reading.
He is in his best run of form at Leeds and has responded brilliantly.
Leeds have a lot invested in him as a homegrown talent, and won’t throw him to the bench as soon as Darlow arrives.
Darlow may consider it worth the gamble, after Peacock-Farrell’s earlier slip in form. He knows the Championship and doesn’t have much chance of game time at Newcastle at the moment.
However if another team makes him an offer and are willing to offer him a clear cut number one spot, then Darlow could easily decide that Leeds’ offer isn’t for him.
