Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Liverpool new boy Darwin Nunez is ‘the real deal’ after he continued to impress for his new club at the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side recorded a 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Fulham, with Nunez coming off the bench and ensuring Liverpool didn’t suffer total embarrassment in the capital.

Just like Nunez did against Manchester City in the Community Shield, he came off the bench, changed the tide of the game, and most importantly, scored a very important goal.

The 23-year-old is certainly banging Klopp’s door down now that he should be starting, with Roberto Firmino leading the line for the past two games – Crystal Palace will travel to Merseyside on Monday night.

And even if he continues from the bench, then the Anfield faithful know that they have someone to come off the bench that can make quite the difference.

Nonetheless, after Nunez made his debut in England’s top-flight at Craven Cottage, Tottenham legend, Glenn Hoddle, liked what he saw from the player, as he told Premier League Productions.

“He looks the real deal,” said Hoddle. “He’s one can go in-behind and can come off. He has a nice physique about him as well.

“He has good movement and has shown his ability to win balls in the air, so there’s another little option Liverpool now have. I don’t think they have had that option for the past few seasons.

“They have a good player on their hands. Liverpool’s recruitment has been absolutely fantastic for the last two or three seasons.

“Look at Diaz, he came out of nowhere, then he was going to Tottenham, then ‘no he’s not. He’s coming to Liverpool’. And bang! They seem to do it every season, at the moment.”

FORGETTING SAIDO MANE

The big issue Liverpool will face this season is if there are cries of ‘they are missing Sadio Mane’ or ‘they would be in a better position if Mane was still here’.

There’s no doubt that his summer transfer to Bayern Munich was a big blow to the club, and the fact that he leaves as a club legend says it all.

But if Nunez can continue this start, Diogo Jota can come back from injury and showcase his deadly nature in front of goal, Mo Salah can continue to do Mo Salah things, added with Luis Diaz’s fast rise, then they can quickly forget about the player, on the pitch that is.

This is the first time Klopp has had to sell such a superstar that has been important to them winning trophies, so it will be pretty interesting to see how it all pans out.
