Rangers took a crucial step towards title success on Saturday

The likes of Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier may have regularly been among the goals for Rangers of late, but it was their goalkeeper who stood out from the crowd at Ibrox on Saturday.
That’s the view of Celtic legend Sir Kenny Dalglish, who watched his former side dominate the first half only to be repelled time and again by Allan McGregor.
The Rangers number one will turn 39 this month, but was as reliable as ever on an afternoon when Rangers moved a step closer to their first title since 2011.

Making his 401st appearance for the club, McGregor made a series of saves including a spectacular stop to deny Leigh Griffiths that left the striker shaking his head in disbelief.
The game was decided by Callum McGregor’s own goal, but with another keeper wearing the Rangers jersey that might merely have been a consolation rather than the winner.
Speaking in the Sunday Post, Dalglish said referee Bobby Madden “may have been the best performer on the pitch, but he was outdone by Allan McGregor’s brilliance.”
Dalglish added: “He was outstanding and his save from Leigh Griffiths was right out of the top drawer.
It gave Rangers a platform to go on and win the game, and they are now 19 points ahead of Celtic.

“Steven Gerrard and his players are now in a position where it is extremely difficult not to see them go on and win the title.”
Rangers are next in action on Sunday January 10, when they face third-placed Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
