Following Fernando Llorente’s injury at the weekend, Sigurdsson is the sole inspiration once more for the Swans.

Swansea City have been more than a little reliant on a few key names this season, and with two injured in the past weekend, their struggle to stay up will now rely on the form of one man.

At the beginning of the season, the Swans seemed to be dragged single-handedly through each game by Gylfi Sigurdsson; and after Fernando Llorente limped off with a dead leg following a challenge with Tom Huddlestone, the weight is now fully on the Icelandic playmaker’s shoulders to help his team succeed.

Sigurdsson has been involved in 19 goals for Swansea this season, scoring 8 and assisting 11. It remains to be seen whether he will be deployed up front, or if Jordan Ayew will be given his chance to impress.

Llorente had been in fine form over the previous month, having scored 3 goals in his past 2 games, building on a number of braces in his Swans career, after a slightly slow start to his Premier League season.

In Sigurdsson, Swansea have a talisman, a creative hub. However, Swansea’s early season form only goes to show that he cannot do everything by himself, and at a time where everything good seems to come from him, he will need support.

With a vital run of games coming up, and Angel Rangel also out for the rest of the season, it seems that Swansea will once more be hoping for some free-kick magic from their Icelandic wizard if they are to have any chance of staying up.
