With the second international break now upon us, it seems a perfect time to assess the Premier League stats so far.

We have already taken a look at the best and worst performing teams in regards to defence, attack and passing.

With those out of the way, it seems a good time to look at what players are dominating the stats in each position.

We took a look at how the goalkeepers ranked, so now we have moved on to the defenders.

Middlesbrough defender Antonio Barragan has won the most tackles of any defender so far this season, with a tally of 23.

Teammate George Friend, Burnley’s Matthew Lowton, Manchester City’s Nicholas Otamendi and Crystal Palace defender are all second with a score of 16.

Hull City’s Curtis Davies has managed to win the most interceptions with a score of 43. Friend is again in second place and West Ham United’s Winston Reid is in third.

Otamendi is the Premier League’s leader when it comes to duels won (53) but Chelsea’s Gary Cahill is top for aerial duels won (31).

Burnley’s Ben Mee has managed the most effective clearances, 56 to date, while Everton’s Phil Jagielka has posted the most effective headed clearances with 41.

Finally, Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady is the best defender when it comes to ball recoveries (50). Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal is second with 47 and West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans is third with 45.
