With the second international break now upon us, it seems a perfect time to assess the Premier League stats so far.

We have already taken a look at both the best and worst performing goalkeepers and the best and worst performing defenders.

With those out of the way, we have now moved on to the midfielders in the league.

So who have been dominating the stats in the first seven games of the season? Here is what we found.

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has posted won the most tackles with a score of 29 so far. Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater is second with 20 and Hull City’s Sam Clucas is third on 19.

It is Southampton man Oriel Romeu who has posted the most interceptions won (22) while West Ham United’s Cheikhou Kouyate is hot on his heels (21).

Drinkwater comes out on top in terms of ball recoveries with 76 so far, nine ahead of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and 14 ahead of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

It is the Reds man who has posted the most accurate passes (529) although Arsenal star Mesut Ozil dominates for successful passes in the final third (199).

Surprisingly Crystal Palace man Jason Puncheon is the leading in key passes with a tally of 24, just one ahead of Chelsea’s Willian on 23.

Finally, it is Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho who has registered the most shots on target (10) although West Ham’s Michail Antonio, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson are joint second on nine.
