The Premier League’s best performing midfielders so far

Stars from Everton, Liverpool and Chelsea all feature in the list.

With an international break once again bringing the domestic season to a halt, now seems a perfect time to assess how things are going in the Premier League.

Liverpool are top of the table, two points clear of second-placed Chelsea, while Arsenal and Manchester City make up the rest of the top four.

Tottenham Hotspur sit in in fifth and Manchester United are sixth, eight points behind the league leaders.

At the other end of the table, Sunderland are bottom with just one win to their name, while Swansea City and Hull City make up the rest of the bottom three.

So how have the players been faring? We decided to take a look, this time focusing on the best performing midfielders.

To make things fair, the players we looked at have all played at least half of the games so far.

Starting in the defensive stats and Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye dominates the tackling charts, winning more tackles per game than any other midfielder.

It is Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater who tops the ball recovery charts, though, as his score of 10.4 per game sees him ahead of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson and former teammate N’Golo Kante.

The Liverpool captain has been the best passer so far, posting more accurate passes per game than anyone else, although West Ham’s Dimitri Payet has been the best when it comes to key passes per game.

The Frenchman has registered 4.4 per match, a whole 1.3 more than his closest competitors Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva.

Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny is top for passing accuracy, with an impressive score of 93 per cent to his name.

Finally, it is De Bruyne who tops the assist charts with six so far, ahead of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Nemanja Matic.

Eden Hazard is the top scoring midfielder, though, having bagged seven goals, just one ahead of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.
