England’s rescheduled game against Poland is going to mean a massive knock on effect for Premier League sides this weekend if the fixture still goes ahead. Here are the five clubs most likely to suffer as a result.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham’s main striker Jermain Defoe is set to lead the front line for England in the match against Poland. Spurs have an early kick-off on Saturday against Chelsea which means that Defoe is one of the England players who is going to have the least amount of time to recover before he is needed for duty by his club. It means that Spurs may have to use an alternative attacking system is Defoe is too tired to play.
Chelsea
Although Chelsea are fortunate in the respect that they are not expected to have any players in the line up for the match against Poland, they do have players who are in the England squad and they will be drained due to the travelling. Gary Cahill is one such player who will be a key defender, if he starts, in the match against Spurs. It could mean mistakes from the Chelsea man if he’s not firing on all cylinders.
Manchester United
Manchester United are probably the unluckiest team when it comes to this situation because they have a tough home game against Stoke city on Saturday and then a Champions League fixture next Tuesday. This means there will be some members of the United squad who will have played three top professional matches within seven days which could stretch the United squad right out.
Manchester City
Similar to United in the respect that they have a Premier League game on Saturday followed by a Champions League fixture next week. The difference is that City are playing away from home at West Brom this Saturday so Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, James Milner and others will be forced into even more travelling. City are then off to Ajax which means a trip to Holland and even more travelling.
Arsenal
Arsenal can feel unlucky because they have a few younger players in the current England squad. These players will be in the best position to cope with the mental and physical strain of playing, and travelling, so much in a short period of time but it means that fatigue could kick in a little further down the line, leaving Arsenal with ineffective players at a vital time in the season. They are also travelling away from London to Norwich City on Saturday before a home Champions League game.
