Carlos Alcaraz shockingly split with his longtime coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, on Wednesday.
In an emotional message on Instagram, Alcaraz announced he was parting ways with Ferrero, stating: “A time of change is upon us both, new adventures and new projects.”
The Spanish compatriots had been working with each other for more than seven years, in what was an incredibly successful player-coach relationship.
Ferrero guided an incredible talent to the very top of men’s tennis, a feat he knew was possible back when Alcaraz was just 16 years old.

In an interview with Tennis TV at that time, Ferrero said of his protege: “He’s 16, and he’s starting to travel around the world.
“You know, he has the level. He has the speed. Physically, he is getting better every day. I think he is going to be one of the best.
“I don’t know how high is the best, but I think he can be maybe, in two or three years, up there. That’s what I think.
“Let’s see what is going to happen, but that’s what I think,” concluded Ferrero, who went on to help Alcaraz carve out one of the best starts to a tennis career in history.

Carlos Alcaraz’s achievements with Juan Carlos Ferrero
With Ferrero in his corner, Alcaraz has claimed a total of 24 ATP titles, eight of which he secured during his incredible 2025 campaign.
The 22-year-old won six Grand Slams, having emerged victorious twice at each of Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.
In 2022, Alcaraz became the youngest world number one in history under the wing of Ferrero, following his maiden major triumph at the US Open that year.
He finished as the year-end number one for the second time in his career this season, surpassing his rival, Jannik Sinner, to reach the top spot.
Along with his many achievements on the tour, Alcaraz has also won an Olympic silver medal, which he earned at the 2024 Games in Paris.
