The Rangers development squad manager has led his Ibrox youngsters into the second round.

Graeme Murty has urged more Rangers fans to come and watch his young Gers stars.

Murty led Rangers’ Under-19s to round two of the UEFA Youth League with a 2-2 draw against BSC Young Boys on Wednesday.

The game was played in front of a 917-strong crowd at Partick Thistle’s Firhill Stadium, where goals from Nathan Young-Coombes and Danny Finlayson rescued the tie for Rangers.

And speaking via Rangers’ official Twitter page afterwards, Murty claimed that such a turn out was the least his players deserve.

“It’s brilliant. It’s great,” he said. “And hopefully they’ll go home and tell everyone how good it was and how well we played and (ask), ‘did you see that player?’ and ‘what about this player?’ and this guy was great. The more that we can do that and the more that that message can spread, the big a crowd we’ll have for the next round. The players deserve it, actually. They were that good today that they deserve to be seen by more people.”

Rangers’ reward for seeing off Young Boys on away goals is another two-legged tie against Slovan Bratislava.

The games are scheduled to take place on 6 and 27 November.

This is the first time that Rangers have taken part in the competition, which also features FC Porto – the holders – and Derby County among others this season, having won the U18s league in Scotland last term.
