Rangers are keen to sign Nnamdi Ofoborh from Bournemouth and manager Jason Tindall has already admitted that the out-of-contract midfielder could be on his way.

While the return of Jack Wilshere warmed the cockles of most on the South Coast, you could forgive Ofoborh for wondering what this means for his first-team prospects.

The 21-year-old has only made three fleeting Championship appearances in 2020/21.

With a 34-time England international now shunting him ever further down the pecking order, who could really blame Ofoborh if he comes to the conclusion that it is time for a change of scene?

According to the Glasgow Times, Rangers have opened talks over a deal which shares some similarities to the one that saw Joe Aribo leave Charlton for Ibrox two years ago.

And, in quotes reported by the Daily Echo, Tindall admitted that Bournemouth would be powerless to prevent Ofoborh from moving north of the border if he so wishes.

“If Nnamdi wants to stay at the football club, it is going to be down to him,” said a man who assisted Eddie Howe in the Cherries dugout before taking on the top job last summer.

“He’s certainly a player we like and we want to keep. It then becomes the player’s decision whether he wants to stay at the football club or not.”

Of course, there is no guarantee that Ofobohr would play regularly at Rangers either. Far from it.

Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Bongani Zungu and Aribo himself have all shone for the runaway Scottish Premiership leaders this season, while 36-year-old Steven Davis continues to laugh in the face of Father Time.

The Glasgow Times reports that Rangers are also keen to sign centre-back Jack Simpson from Bournemouth.
