On Sunday night, with several managerial casualties recent in the memory, and some about to come, the BBC honoured the most successful manager in British history, Sir Alex Ferguson with the Diamond Award in its annual Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony. Such a special manager comes along once a generation, and it is no surprise that even though he’s retired, the awards keep coming.
