The perfect solution for Leeds with Bielsa would be to double up

Leeds United should consider trying to hire Marcelo Bielsa, and Matias Almeyda.

Leeds United are on the brink of hiring Marcelo Bielsa, with The Telegraph reporting yesterday afternoon a deal could be done within 24 hours.

The countdown is on, but question marks remain over who he will bring on as part of his staff.

The perfect solution may actually be to bring in Leeds’ reported Bielsa alternative, Matias Almeyda, as his assistant.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported Almeyda was Leeds’ fall-back option, and Almeyda knows Bielsa, having played under him for Argentina’s national team.

He has since gone onto forge a very promising career in management, leading Chivas to multiple league titles in Mexico, and winning the CONCACAF Champions League.

Almeyda is still young and unproven as a manager in Europe, and working under Bielsa at Leeds would be the perfect way to adjust.

Bielsa is known as a tactical innovator but his record at club level has not been great since he left Athletic Bilbao, with three short-term appointments on his CV.

By bringing in Almeyda along with him, Leeds could secure somebody to take over from Bielsa one day, by which time he will surely be ready to build upon his Mexican success.
