Leeds United host Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup this week, and it is the perfect opportunity for the club to hand a debut to emerging young striker Frank Mulhern.
Mulhern has been in form for Leeds United’s under-23 side, with three goals already this campaign.
With rotation expected for the competition, it would be a wise move for Garry Monk to try and learn more about the promising forward in a competitive match situation.

There is only one way to find out if Mulhern is ready, and that is by giving him a chance in the first team, and doing so could have benefits for the Whites – while importantly not affecting their league campaign.
Leeds can potentially find out they have struck gold with the young talent if he makes an impact, and have a player who could play a role in Championship matches later this season.
If it does not work out then, ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’, but at the same time Leeds will have given a rest to one or both of Chris Wood and Marcus Antonsson, who Monk would surely want to keep fresh for the Championship.

Leeds have two games in four days next Saturday and Tuesday, against Ipswich Town and Bristol City, and this match against Blackburn is a perfect opportunity to rotate, with Rovers facing the same predicament.
The Whites were unsuccessful in adding an extra striker on transfer deadline day, but this is their opportunity to establish if they have a viable third option or not, without being forced into it through injury or suspension.
